Medicare and Healthcare Coverage
In Australia, Medicare provides coverage for optometry services. If you have a valid Medicare card, you are entitled to a complimentary eye exam through the Eye Health Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS). This covers basic eye health assessments, including checks for common conditions such as glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. Please note that additional services, such as contact lens fittings, specialized tests, or eyewear prescriptions, may incur extra charges.
Bulk Billing
Bulk billing is available for eligible patients. If you have a valid Medicare card, in most cases Medicare covers the cost of your eye exam—leaving you with no out-of-pocket expense for your standard eye health check.
