OUR LEGACY

SINCE 1927 ..

Chapman-Davies Optometry was founded by notable chemist and optician William Davies (Pictured right above). William, who was born in England, arrived in Australia in 1910. He subsequently practised in Queensland and New South Wales and eventually came to Punchbowl in 1927.

William’s son Basil Chapman-Davies (Pictured left above) took over the practice in 1947 and moved it to 52 The Boulevarde, Lakemba.

ANTHONY CHAPMAN-DAVIES

Basil’s son Anthony Chapman-Davies joined the practice in 1979.
He formally took over in 1981 and subsequently relocated
the practice to 44 The Boulevarde where it currently resides.

Under his guidance Anthony solidified the reputation of the
practice for eyecare excellence. He was later joined by his wife
— Gina Chapman-Davies.

During his early career, he was one of the few optometrists to
master and incorporate techniques such as indirect ophthalmoscopy, gonioscopy and contact lens fundoscopy into private optometry,
well before their adoption in mainstream practice.

Chapman-Davies Optometry was also one of the few
private practices to posses a fundus camera and photo
slit-lamp in the 1980s.

JOSEF LEDERER A.

In 1998 Anthony was awarded the Josef Lederer Award for Excellence in Clinical Optometry by the Optometry Australia NSW Division.

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR (UNSW)

Anthony's long history as an educator and lecturer culminated
in his appointment as Conjoint Associate Professor in 2013 until present. His passion for teaching started from the early days of his career and carries on until this day where he continues to mentor and inspire the next generation of practitioners at the School of Optometry and
Vision Science UNSW Sydney.

YEAR 2017

In 2017 Chapman-Davies Optometry was joined by two new partners — Thomas Cheong and Michael Kang. They each have over 10 years of clinical experience and similarly supervise at the School of Optometry and Vision Science UNSW Sydney.

Their presence was quickly felt throughout the practice. Both through the introduction of new technology and key specialties. The practice is now home to state-of-the-art corneal topographer which captures 3D corneal imaging, latest in digital slit-lamp imaging, dry eye
assessments and corneal foreign body removal.

Chapman-Davies remains one of the few practices to routinely dilate all patients. This unwavering focus on eyecare and co-management with local health professionals is what sets them apart.

They are very proud of the trust and confidence entrusted to them
and will continue to make this their foremost priority.

A big thank you to all our loyal patients over the many years
and into the future.

YEAR 2021 ..

This is a year most of us will never forget. For us, its doubly so as we
embark onto the next stage of our practice — with a full practice fit-out.

We are extremely proud of our new space along with the addition of new equipment. We would love to welcome you to our practice.

Proudly looking after the eyecare needs of our Sydney community
— Lakemba, Wiley Park, Punchbowl, Roselands, Belmore, Greenacre, Campsie and the greater Sydney community.

We are honoured to have patients coming from as far as
Windsor, Wahroonga, Campbelltown, Liverpool and
the Blue Mountains.
